⟶ 06.10.2023: This is an interactive version of a plot showing the Greisen function as ideal shower profile. Hover the lines with your mouse to see the primary energy for the respective curve. I assume a radiation length in air of X = 37 g/cm², regions of equal shower age are highlighted in red.


Here you see the modified Greisen function, where you can play around with four free parameters. The inset number shows the corresponding energy to the profile you created. For the curves to be accurate I assume an average energy loss of 2 MeV / (g/cm²) per particle at the maximum. Please be patient, Mathematica is quite slow.
X1 ... depth of the first interaction
Xmax ... depth of the maximum (independent of X1!)
λ ... effective radiation length
ε ... effectice energy loss per depth per particle
